Night storm in evosmo-thessaloniki (part 1) with more than 30 lightning strikes and thunders in a period of 20 minutes. The recording was made by me with the zoom handy recorder h2 (open window of my apartment). The recorder (edirol r-09rh) was set in a very high building, therefore the sound consists mainly of ambient noise, eventually with subtle concrete sounds (birds, childs, dogs, sirens,. . . ). Third in a series of 3 consecutive recordings of the sound of summer birdsong in a suburban english setting. This one prominently features the sound of water flushing through an outside kitchen drain into an alleyway. Common suburban evening birdsong can be heard clearly throughout with distant traffic noise in the background. Recorded on a summer evening in june 2016 in southern england using a rode nt-4 microphone in a rycote lyre shock mount, marantz pmd661 and edited using adobe audition.

This is a recording from a wonderful place in suburban shanghai, "old bell park. " recorded on a weekday afternoon, this recording consists of various ambient elements including the chatting of passerby, distant construction and traffic, and a pair of voices singing along with a flute.

This is the audible annunciation found at all intersections with traffic lights in paris, france. It announces the condition of the traffic lights for pedestrians who are blind or with impaired vision. The annunciation is turned on by pressing a button on the traffic light pole. When the crosswalk sign is red (do not cross), the recorded annunciation is always "rouge piéton" ("red light, pedestrian"), followed by the name of the street that the crosswalk crosses (in this case "rue d'antin," the quiet side street where i recorded this). This repeats over and over until the crosswalk changes to green, at which point there is a two-second trill tone followed by a repeating bell tone. The bell tone is one bell, followed by two bells, repeated four times, followed by a very brief pause, and then the sequence is repeated again. This continues until the crosswalk changes back to red, at which point the "rouge piéton" message resumes. The annunciation continues for at least one cycle of the traffic lights and then stops, unless the button is pressed again. The audio quality of the annunciation is very poor even in real life (it sounds like a wax cylinder recording or something), and can be difficult to understand. This recording accurately captures the poor quality of the annunciation. The volume of the annunciation is also adjusted dynamically based on ambient noise, so there is a slight change in volume on this recording as the system apparently reacts to noise from traffic or something. There is a weak background noise that sounds like some sort of machine, but it wasn't coming from the traffic light and i don't know the source. The recording starts with the crosswalk red, then at about 18. 3 seconds it changes to green, then it changes back to red at about 53 seconds. A car passes at around 48 seconds. Recorded with a zoom h4n, stereo 96 khz / 24 bits, built-in mics, from about ten inches below the tiny speaker in the crosswalk sign housing.

Zoom h1n recording from this morning's rainstorm in metro detroit. The original recording was from 5:02am to 7:26am, but due to a lot of secondary rain drops splashes hitting the recorder directly when the wind would shift i edited it down to 52 minutes after taking most of the knocks outs when i edited in movavi. Pretty steady rain for most of the track as you hear the hum from the morning commuters in their cars increase in the distant background. You'll hear some birds too throughout the track, mostly starlings i believe.

This is recorded at droescher's mill in cranford nj. The local dam used to power a waterwheel. The wheel is no longer in operation but it's still a nice relaxing spot. A little waterfall is in the foreground, a big waterfall (the dam) is in the background, and the sounds of traffic are audible faintly.
